I found this book in the library after they reopened and thought the cover looked interesting. The book was written by an Italian author and is the first he has written in English. I neglected to notice that the book is in the fantasy genre, something I don't generally read.
It started out normal, then it got weird. The book follows four friends, Art, Mauro, Fabio, and Tony. They were friends in school and before they all left after high school, they made a pact to return to their hometown every year for one night. This year, they go back, but only three show up. Now this would not be that worrying as the previous year Fabio didn't show up, but this time it was Art. Art would never miss this night, he is the one who came up with the pact idea. The three remaining friends begin to wonder where Art is and what might have happened to him.
Art moved back to their hometown, surprising everyone as he wanted to get out almost as much as Fabio. The three friends went to search his house and found some disturbing things. They soon realize he was likely involved with the local mafia. Following the clues leads them closer to finding out what has happened to Art and closer to danger for all of them.
While searching for Art, they all keep remembering an incident from their past when Art disappeared and wonder if it is connected. Some incorrect conclusions are drawn and the actual truth is stranger than any of them could have imagined!
The book flows okay, the story is okay, but it has a lot of weird topics, and that isn't even the fantasy part of the book. This book wasn't really my cup of tea, but if you like fantasy, you might like this.
