I have been reading a lot this year, so much that I have fallen behind on posting the books here. So here are a bunch more books I have read recently!
Your Second Act: Inspiring Stories of Reinvention - Patricia Heaton - this non-fiction book is about finding the next thing in your life that you love and want to do. I guess it's aimed more at people nearing retirement, but it was a nice read with some great stories of people finding their passion later in life. Most of the stories were about very life-changing events and it might have been nice to read about regular people, though maybe the stories wouldn't have been as interesting then.
Separation Anxiety - Laura Zigman - I picked this one up mostly for the cover, which shows a woman carrying a dog in a baby sling. The story is about a woman feeling lost, she is separated from her husband, but still living in the same house, her son is getting older and doesn't need her like he used to, her career didn't go where she thought it would, her best friend is dying, and she's just kind of sad. One day while cleaning out the basement she finds an old baby sling and feels the need to wear it and somehow decides to carry the dog. The book follows her through the next steps in her life and how the dog helped and hindered her. I didn't love it, but it was a pretty good read.
The Other Woman - Sandie Jones - We listened to this one in the car as we were travelling this summer. The book follows a dysfunctional daughter-in-law/mother-in-law relationship where it seems the mother-in-law is out to get the daughter-in-law. It was a long audio book and maybe would have been better to read, but neither my husband nor I really liked it.
Something Rotten - Jasper Fforde - Have you read the Thursday Next books? I am not a fantasy reader at all, but I really like this series. Maybe I like them so much because Thursday works as a Literary Detective in the Outland and she can also jump into the book world. Each one of the series has been enjoyable and I am looking forward to the next one!
Bossypants - Tina Fey - This is another audiobook we started while driving home from Saskatchewan after finishing The Other Woman. It was a pretty good listen, maybe because Tina is the narrator and she has some funny stories, some relatable, some not, but definitely a good way to pass the time while driving. I'm sure the book would be fun to read as well!
