Some Audio Books

I started listening to audio books as I lay in bed at night. I had a bad habit of watching random videos on my phone until I got tired so I thought I would give audio books a try. It's usually a really nice way to fall asleep, though I think I often have to rewind a bit each night to get back to where I was in the book before I fell asleep. I use the Libby app for listening to audio books. It's easy to use and has a timer, so each night I set a fifteen minute timer and usually I fall asleep before it stops. Sometimes I get too involved in the story and have to set another fifteen minutes! I have listened to some great books over the last few months!
Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets, & Advise for Living Your Best Life - Ali Wong - I picked this book because I wanted something funny. I watched Ali Wong's stand up specials and thought they were hilarious. While she's sometimes a bit too crude for me, overall this book was really good. She tells stories of growing up, becoming a stand up comic, meeting her husband, and having children. All the chapters are written as letters to her daughters and she imparts some wisdom in each one.
Calypso - Davide Sedaris - As I was scrolling through the Libby app looking for another book to listen to, I came across this book. I vaguely remember hearing about David Sedaris, but had never read anything of his before. So I gave it a shot and really enjoyed it. The essays are all about his life with his partner and his large family. Much of it takes place at a beach house in North Carolina, but there are some essays about his life in England. My favourite was about his addiction to his Fitbit.
Barrel Fever: Stories and Essays - David Sedaris - Because I enjoyed Calypso so much, I went in search of other David Sedaris books. There are a lot and I decided to start at the beginning. This is the first book and is mostly stories, with only a few personal essays. I didn't enjoy this one as much, the stories weren't what I would usually read. The personal essays were great, and reminded me why I had enjoyed Calypso so much.
Naked - David Sedaris - You can probably see a theme here. This book is filled with essays on David's early life after moving to North Carolina. The stories are a funny look at life, but talk about many serious things as well. I look forward to listening to this everyday. My next audio book will likely be another David Sedaris book!
