Books....how I love books....

I read a lot. I have always read a lot. As a kid, my summer holidays were spent at the library and curled up in a chair reading. Who needs to go outside? This perhaps explains my lack of athletic ability. I can get so engrossed in a book that I hear nothing, which is great when my kids are fighting over something ridiculous. I am also a very fast reader. I can read a book in a day, though that rarely happens since I’m a grown up with a job and the above-mentioned kids. But how I wish it could. If I could read books for a living, I would be so happy. Maybe I should have stuck to my English degree and found some way to read books all day, but instead my conservative common-sense side won out and I ended up as an accountant, almost the furthest thing from an English major. So while I’m years, or maybe decades, late to the blog world, I’m going to try to reach my “creative” side and give this a shot.

My genre of choice is fiction. Any kind of fiction. Usually I pick books based on their cover. If a cover doesn't look interesting, or the title isn't one I would gravitate to, then I likely won't read it. Yeah, I know, don't judge a book by its cover....but what else am I supposed to judge it by? While general fiction is my usual choice, I also enjoy a good mystery and the occasional thriller. Toss in some beach reads and you have my typical books. I will branch out once in awhile to another genre, but it's rare and it has to be a really good book.

I love the library. Everyone should be going to the library. That is one of my main sources of books. So new releases are not as likely to be featured here. Unless someone wants to send me some new releases. No? Okay then.

I also recently joined a book club. But not a book club where someone picks a book and everyone has to read it. In this book club you read what you want, then pitch the books to the club. Whoever is interested in your book takes it. Everyone goes home with a stack of books. I love that part of it so much. I even have a book club shelf!
